FAQ
Is the size of posts in stables important?
It is easy to over-engineer a structure but that leads to higher costs and more environmental impact. Here at Loddon we have designed and tested our structures to ensure they are very robust and long lasting. The post size and gauge is always right for the job.
Is it better to have thicker infill boards?
After decades of having our boards tested in the field, we feel we have just the right thickness, ensuring no waste of plastic or wood, and importantly less steel in the channel holding them. We haven’t heard of one of our boards being broken by a horse.

Do you use recycled plastic for the infill on your stables and doors?
Recycled plastic is the most popular choice for infill at Loddon and it is cheaper than hardwood.
Can a horse kick through a board?
We have been using the same materials and width of board for tens of years and during that time have never been told of one broken by a horse kick.
Are you able to do site visits?
We have developed COVID secure methods that allow our representatives to visit your site. Alternatively we have had great success with ‘virtual visits’ using WhatsApp, Zoom or Teams.
What is the guarantee on your stables?
Loddon provides a 10 year guarantee on all materials and workmanship for all our stables, doors and windows.
What are the advantages of steel over timber stables?
Timber stables are usually cheaper to buy but can end up costing more in the long run due to frequent maintenance and repair requirements. Loddon steel stables can last a lifetime, are maintenance free and can be easily dismantled and moved when you do.
Do infill boards lose colour?
The recycled plastic boards that Loddon use have been UV stabilised, which minimises the loss of colour. Most customers clean and then teak oil their hardwood, which results in a slow darkening of the wood and enhances the patina.
Is the gap between grille bars important?
Loddon have been refining our stables over 60 years and have found bars spaced at 53mm width apart provide optimum strength and safety for your horse.
Is plastic more expensive than hardwood?
At Loddon plastic is cheaper than hardwood and, being made from recycled material, goes towards saving the planet.
